The Shire of Barren Sands is the branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism that serves the Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland, and Salem Counties in southern New Jersey.

The SCA is an international organization dedicated to research and education about pre-1600’s Europe and the countries that had contact with it.

We learn about the Middle Ages by living it! A short list of things we do:

> Making and wearing medieval clothes

> Painting and calligraphy

> Cooking, and more importantly, eating medieval foods

> Practicing and performing period music, dances, and songs

> Learning to fight with swords, shields, axes, and armor

> Archery, thrown weapons, and equestrian activities

…and so much more!
